Determine the amount of cash collected on a credit sale in the amount of $4,500 and subject to a 6% sales tax when $500 worth of merchandise has already been returned for credit.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. $4,240.00 B. $4,500.00 C. $4,000.00 D. $3,860.00

OpenStudy (dogzcatz):

4000+240=x x is your answer, but with a dollar sign

OpenStudy (dogzcatz):

4000x0.06 = 240

OpenStudy (retireed):

I think you get the RIGHT answer, but I think the question is poorly written. If I am returning $500 dollars in merchandise, I must have paid taxes on the "merchandise" right? I should be given a credit of $530. So $4500 - $530 = $3970 $3970 + $3970(0.06) = $4208.2 which isn't an option
