If the radii of 2 intersecting spheres are 12cm and 9cm and the distance between their centers is 15cm. Find the area of the largest circle common to the two spheres.

OpenStudy (vijeya3):

In this question,do you know which would be the largest common circle?

I'm going to assume you won't be checking back for a while... First you want to draw a sketch noticing that spheres have rotational symmetry, so a 2d picture of circles will serve you well. After you decide where the largest circle would fit draw a triangle and notice you have all the information you need to find the radius of the largest circle the spheres have in common! (All also leave some numbers without meaning, so you can check your work, 27/5, 36/5.)
