OpenStudy (prince1342):

A point Q on a segment with endpoints A(2, −1) and C(4, 2) partitions the segment in a 3:1 ratio. Find Q. You must show all work to receive credit.

OpenStudy (prince1342):

OpenStudy (prince1342):

So how do I find Q? By taking a wild guess?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Q can be in two different positions.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

You must place Q in a way that it is 1/4 of the way from one end and 3/4 of the way from the other end.

OpenStudy (prince1342):

I'm confused as to how to apply that

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Before we apply it, do you understand how the 3:1 ratio turns into 1/4 and 3/4 of the way?

OpenStudy (prince1342):

Yeah. 3+1=4 then have 1/4 and 3/4

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Excellent.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Let's say we decide to place it closer to C than to A.
