Help with trigonometry! Will medal! Find the length of the base of the following pyramid, given the height of the pyramid is 91 meters and the angle of elevation of the base of the pyramid is 52°. Round to the nearest whole number. (pic coming)
well, keep in mind that, the height is taken from the center of the base of the pyramid and that means, is half-way from any of the four sides of the base so, recall your SOH CAH TOA|dw:1456184425956:dw| so \(sin(\theta)=\cfrac{opposite}{hypotenuse} \qquad \qquad % cosine cos(\theta)=\cfrac{adjacent}{hypotenuse} \\ \quad \\ % tangent tan(\theta)=\cfrac{opposite}{adjacent}\) which of those fellows, have the angle opposite side and adjacent side ONLY? so you can use it :)
Tangent does c: I've tried working this out before but always come up with an answer that isn't the answer choice (my calculator is on degrees yes)
would you like me to list the answer choices here so we can use them to build off of just in case?
@kayders1997 ? :c
well, yeap is tangent thus \(\bf tan(\theta)=\cfrac{opposite}{adjacent}\implies tan(52^o)=\cfrac{91}{adjacent}\implies adjacent=\cfrac{91}{tan(52^o)}\) make sure your calculator is in Degrees mode, when you take the tangent
hmm
\(\bf tan(\theta)=\cfrac{opposite}{adjacent}\implies tan(52^o)=\cfrac{91}{adjacent} \\ \quad \\ adjacent=\cfrac{91}{tan(52^o)}\)
those are all steps to take, right? I'll go over it one more time ^^
yes
I got 71.096 and the answer choices are: 142 meters 197 meters 231 meters 295 meters
|dw:1456184858106:dw|
so.. what did you get from 91/tan(\(52^o\)) ?
71.0969920121 o.o should I multiply it by two?
yeap
149.1939 which I'm guessing will be 149 overall :) thank you so much!
Oh wait a second, the answer choice is 142 >.>
149? hmmm 71 * 2 is 142 =| anyhow, I got 142.19398402422256626546 rounded up to 142
I multiplied 71.0969920121 times 2, was that a bad way to do it?
