OpenStudy (moneykid70):

Two points are plotted in the coordinate plane at (-3, 7) and (-3, -9). What is the distance between them? A) -2 B) 2 C) 6 D) 16

OpenStudy (sand-lock53):

first, count the # of units between them

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

you could just plot them in a cartesian grid and see how far apart they're :) or you could also \(\bf \textit{distance between 2 points}\\ \quad \\ \begin{array}{lllll} &x_1&y_1&x_2&y_2\\ % (a,b) &({\color{red}{ -3}}\quad ,&{\color{blue}{ 7}})\quad % (c,d) &({\color{red}{ -3}}\quad ,&{\color{blue}{ -9}}) \end{array}\qquad % distance value d = \sqrt{({\color{red}{ x_2}}-{\color{red}{ x_1}})^2 + ({\color{blue}{ y_2}}-{\color{blue}{ y_1}})^2}\)

OpenStudy (sand-lock53):

yeah, that's what I meant.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A because the 2 x axis are on the same axis so take out the negative and 9 plus 7 is 16 but -9 plus positive 7 is -2

OpenStudy (moneykid70):

thanks i thought it was that but i was a little confused
