Please help asap! what happens to energy biomass and numbers as the trophic level increases
Hey :) So do u know what a tropic level means ?
Yes its a position of an organism within the food pyramid. I know the biomass decreases, and the numbers are how far in the food pyramid the organism is is the energy just converted? am I right?
It's like this. Imagine that plants produced 100kJ using sunlight , when it goes to the next trophic level that level is only gonna take up 10% of the produced energy the rest of the 90% is wasted So the second trophic level is gonna have 10kJ
Did you get it ?
Im still confused. Where was I wrong?
No no you are correct except the last few parts I didn't get what u said there. When u go up in trophic levels the energy biomass decreases that's perfectly right !
SO tell me which part are u confused !
okay what i previously said came out wrong! What happens to the numbers then? the numbers are the levels right?
Okai let me tell you this first We have 3 types of ecological pyramids nah ? 1) pyramid of numbers 2) pyramids of Bio mass 3) Pyramid of energy
yes
Pyramid of numbers - The number of organisms at each trophic level Pyramid of bio mass - the dry weight of all organisms in each trophic level Pyramid of energy - total amount of energy trapped by organisms in a unit area per unit time
In a usually food chain when u go from one trophic level to the next there is a gradual decrease in the numbers, biomass and energy that's why we get an upright pyramid most of the time :) There're instances where we get inverted ones but mostly an upright one
Did u get it now ?
Trophic level increases means that u are going in the upwards way !

I hope you get it now ?
If you got it hit on the blue colour response button to medal me :)
okay so then the energy is concerted right? sorry I just am trying to double check
converted
What do u mean by energy is converted?
oh wait nevermind. Im sorry. I'm half asleep right now and trying to do homework
Energy is produced by the primary producers and is sent to all the consumers in reduced amounts ( when a trophic level takes up energy from the below trophic level it takes up only 10% of energy present in that trophic leveL) Does this make sense ? So obviously energy taken up is reduced when trophic levels are increasing !
yes, can you help me with another question?
of course but close this question and open up another one :)
Take a look at the energy flow of this image
Nevermind I got it! Thank you so much!
No problem bubs :)
