[My Thoughts on OS] For me, this is the best website to help and get helped. I am being kind of bias as I haven't really ventured out further than here, but that's because this is what I like. Now, my biggest problems are the people who post direct answers, get the medal, and move on. This doesn't help anyone, in fact it actually hurts them. Those users won't know how to find the answer on their own and will always need to come back to get answers since they think it will always just be given to them. Another issue I have is people who message asking for direct answers as [IN NEXT COMMENT]
Yeah, I agree with you. That happens a-lot on here, and both users and askers are to blame for that. I wish I had known about this site much sooner, as it would have greatly helped me out a-lot. made me approach learning differently.
:)
There's room for improvement with anything, but my experience here has been great. But that's the thing though, you'll have people who use this site to cheat and those who use it to learn. Yeah as far as I know @Itrout giving direct answers is against the code of conduct.
I don't know how well moderated those are. Anyways, here are some improvements i've thought of. 1) Auto check each reply and if it is a single word such as a, b, c, d, 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. then flag it and notify the user that they can't post direct answers. And give them strikes (1- warning, 2 - ban for x days, 3 - ban perm.) 2) Same goes for messages. You could code up pretty easy bot that checks for certain words and apply the same rule as above Some other improvments I've thought of, the ability to medal more depending on your smartscore level. Currently smartscore doesn't do too much, so why not have some more benefits. Such as when you are below yellow level (forgot the score) you can only give 1 medal, at yellow score you can give 2, and at green 3. Or something to that effect. I find my self asking for feedback on essays and other things and would like the ability to medal at least twice. Anyways. Hope you guys see these things as well. Constructive criticism wanted!!
U got a good point here. It does need improvement but think abt it this way. There are hundreds of us and couple of mods. It's not easy for them to control us all.
@Agl202 That's why I think they should incorporate automods or bots if you will. It's not too difficult to create an 'If-then' file that checks replies and if they are only one word and they match certain conditions (a,b,c,etc.), then flag for moderation and don't let the reply go through until mods have checked it out. The benefits to this are great. The user who asked the question gets actual help from someone who comes along and actually helps without giving direct answers. The mods are able to look at EVERY person who has given direct answers and not just the ones we were able to report. And the people who continually do this, will end up getting banned or learn their lesson so it lowers the amount of people who do it in the future.
I understand. Something should change.
@Itrout I've seen many people give direct answers, I could be wrong but i've never heard of anyone getting banned for that. @Agl202 yeah that's a great idea but the contents of that program should be kept secret like which words they check for to ensure people don't find ways around it.
for some reason I can't tag you properly
@Photon336 Yes although I have not directly heard or seen someone get banned, I have been reported once before for giving out the answer (after I explained how to find that answer) and got the popup warning me that I could be in terms of getting banned. And if it is just a scare tactic, I think they should actually go further and actually ban the person after X amount of reports. Hence the reason an automod would help out tremendously. The more people that give out direct answers continuously that get banned, leads to less of them, and more people who actually are here to help, which leads to a better, stronger, community.
Also, you're using itrout, not Ltrout, that's why the tag isn't working
@Ltrout not arguing with you there. I think some leniency should be given to new users who might not know the CoC.
@Photon336 Yes, same here. That's why if this was implemented they could issue warnings. There's so many conditionals they can incorporate into this its unreal.
@ltrout But if you got banned upon x reports, that could be abused pretty easily. At least for an automod.
@LegendarySadist I see what you mean. But it wouldn't be the automod banning them. When the user gives a direct answer, the automod would flag it to the actual mods and that answer would be 'deleted' from the post if you will. Then, the real mods would check the answer and confirm it a direct answer and issue a warning or deny it and let the answer go through. Think of the automod as a guy who sits in his basement with nothing better to do but report those who aren't following the rules. The automod wouldn't actually be doing any banning, issuing warnings, etc. Only flagging to the real mods.
Ah, I see. Then that makes quite a bit of sense. If only Openstudy applied our suggestions ):
i think a lot of times people hope that they will jut answer their question but people like me.... if someone does that ill ask them how they got it and sometimes they don't answer me or they just tell me to trust them but people like @Photon336 actually explain it to me and help me understand it and i appreciate that so next time i don't have to ask that same question again.
Thanks, @ayonnaleflore, I greatly appreciate that, It benefits both the person asking and the helper too.
I'm just saying it is rather difficult for history, most of the time we history people just give them the source of the answer because for a lot of the questions theres really no way of guiding them towards the answer, we can just ask them which one they think it is, if they are correct we say i think so too, if they are incorrect we just say its wrong and they try again.
*agrees*
:)
Put guard in each section. to catch the DA givers, i love how our @ILovePuppiesLol is, stopping those people in history section, when they give the direct answers ;) We should have more people, like him.
awww erica <3333 @AloneS
... not really @AloneS ... But pup should because he is the only guy on planet that actually doesn't argue... I argue but yea....anyways...
