How To solve This Problem
Ex: If y varies inversely with x and y = 12 when x = 6, find the value of y when x = 9.
How to solve:
Inverse Variation Formula: y = k / x
Substitute 6 for x and 12 for y: 12 = k / 6
Solve for k:
(Multiply both sides by 6) 72 = k
New equation:
(Substitute 72 for k) y = 72 / x
Substitute 9 for x: y = 72 / 9
Answer: y = 8
