describe the significance of the United States dropping the atomic bombs on Japan. Discuss the significant individuals who contributed to this event and explain the rationale for the final decision.

The event itself introduces a race for poltical influence that has'nt stopped. The awful consequences of the a-bomb did speed up the developement of cleaner and more efficient application of n-power. As with oil the constant search for more easily extracted raw material, of ever higher grade has focussed world attention on some unlikely parts of the world and thus flagging them up as potential battle grounds of the future. Of the scientists and all involved many, a few years later, were publicly rubished, and trashed, as being guilty of holding communist sympathies. Though their careers, and reputations, were largely destroyed their legacy remain closely guarded. Now, in the 21C nuclear fission is teettering within the grasp of well organised international terrorism the consequences of which now cannot be fully appreciated.
