HELP!! FAN + MEDAL! (question is in the comment section) The first arc should pass through C. The first arc should be centered at C. The second arc should be centered at C. The second arc should cross the first arc. The second arc should be centered at F.

OpenStudy (xmissalycatx):

What do you think it is?

OpenStudy (ilovebmth1234):

im really bad at this but i was thinking maybe B

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Please explain your reasoning, and skip the "I'm really bad at this" part (it helps no one, least of all you).

OpenStudy (ilovebmth1234):

no i was informing that way i dont look insanely stupid cause of my answers and explanations cause im sure they are wrong

OpenStudy (mathmale):

While I do not immediately see a workable answer choice among the five given, I can propose an alternative way to construct a line parallel to AB and passing through point C: !) Set the compass to span the length BD on line AB. 2) Draw an arc centered at point C above point B. 3) Set the compass to span the length CD. 4) Draw an arc centered at point B and intersecting the arc previously drawn. Draw a line which passes through C and also through the intersection of the two arcs you've drawn. Done. With this background in mind, perhaps you could now make more sense out of the five answer choices and select the best one.

OpenStudy (ilovebmth1234):

okay so actually i change my answer to D cause i was watching this video on Constructing a parallel through a point and the second arch should be centered at F right ? here is the link to the video i watched http://www.mathopenref.com/constparallel.html

OpenStudy (ilovebmth1234):

@Qwertty123

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Rather than respond with "right" or "wrong," I ask you to compare my proposed solution with the wording of your answer choice (D). Do the two seem to agree or disagree?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

I found it more helpful to actually construct a line parallel to AB myself, and only then try to identify the correct answer from among the five choices given.

OpenStudy (ilovebmth1234):

C sense you said 4) Draw an arc centered at point B and intersecting the arc previously drawn. (so both arches would cross)

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Yes, that's how I view this matter.

OpenStudy (ilovebmth1234):

so C would be the correct response

OpenStudy (mathmale):

As before I think you need to imagine that you had a compass in hand and were to construct a line through C that is parallel to AB. Record what you do. I've looked at the diagram repeatedly and cannot see any good reason why the first arc, centered at D, was drawn through E. Were we to erase that first arc, through which point would you draw your first arc, centered at D?

OpenStudy (ilovebmth1234):

omg! im getting so confused i dont know :C
