How do you graph a parabola? What are Parabolas used for? When would I use a parabola?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Also plz no drawings since I am using my phones so it might not be easy to see

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

This explains everyting http://www.purplemath.com/modules/parabola.htm

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

One application of a parabola is to figure out the max area of a rectangle if you are constrained on the amount of material you can use The peak of the parabola points to the optimal conditions, which allows you to max out the area. It turns out that this rectangle is actually a square (assuming you use the material for each of the 4 sides)

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

Yes and they are a lot of formula we use that makes use graph parabolas For example "Graph"f(x) = x2-6x+7 or (x+2)^2+5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the formula for a parabola

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

X^2 or any exponent that is EVEN

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

If its x^3 which is ODD it does a snake ish line

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is ok to make a drawing and an equation to make it clear

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the snake-ish line called?

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

Do you want me to draw the the different types of graphs ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what I want is something like this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the formula on how to make your parabola look like this |dw:1456720558110:dw| What must I do to know where to plot it and the formula for plotting them
