Please help! Complete the Timeline of Early 20th Century American Literature by adding ONE literary title (short story, novel, or poem) and ONE influential event for that literary title for each of the decades listed. You will also need to explain how the two pieces are connected. You should be able to complete this as you read through the lesson, filling in events on your timeline, however you may also use outside sources if you would like. I just need it for 1900's.

On June 18, 1900, the Empress Dowager ordered all foreigners to be killed. Several foreign ministers and their families were killed before the international force could protect them. On August 14, 1900, the international force took Peking and subdued the rebellion.

George Orwell was born in India in 1903 but his mother moved him to England when he was just one year old to live with some of their family members. It was in England that he spent the majority of his life, becoming one of the most well read British authors of all time. Orwell has much interest in human nature and politics, which is why social injustice was a common theme in his books. He is most known for "Animal Farm," which was published in 1945 and "1984," which was published in 1949. Each of these English writers has made a lasting impression on history in the world of literature. Their stories, novels, screenplays, and poetry are housed on the bookshelves of fans worldwide and many of their novels have been turned into wildly successful films. Read those hundred-year-old classics or get excited about what it yet to come from current authors such as J. K. Rowling. With a list as complete as this, there is certainly something for everyone.

example of what is needed 1920: “Rhapsody on a Windy Night” by T.S Eliot I believe that this was influenced by the Great Depression which was currently happening at the time. After WWI the Great Depression began, Eliot describes this time period in his this poem. Some examples are: “ A woman in a torn and dusty dress attempting to solicit men” “Broke springs setting outside a rundown factory.” “ A cat eating rancid butter because there is no other food.” “ Eliot even describes the moon as feeble, with washed out cracks in her face.” During the Great Depression there was a very extreme economic depression throughout the world. Food prices as long as other goods dropped significantly, and Factories shut down. Eliot describes the way that people lived and the desperation people had in that time.
