What is the purpose of reflexive property. Every time it is used is when introducing a new line segment.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Here is an example that shows you the the reflexive property is needed. Let's say you are proving two triangles congruent. |dw:1456787999671:dw|

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Since you are given two sides congruent to two sides, if you have a third pair of congruent sides, you'll be able to use SSS. Well, here comes the reflexive property to tell us that BD = BD. Then using the definition of congruent segments, you can say segment BD is congruent to segment BD. Now you have SSS and you prove the triangles congruent. As you can see, the reflexive property came in handy.

Would I always use it if, for example I created a bisector

If I made a line AC would I use the reflexive property?
