WILL MEDAL AND FAN An electrician charges $80 an hour for weekday repairs and $120 for nights and weekends. Last week, the electrician earned $4800 for 50 hours of work. Which system of equations can be used to find how many hours were worked on weekdays? A) x + y = 50; 80x + 120y = 4800 B) x - y = 50; 50x + 120y = 4800 C) x - y = 50; 80x - 120y = 4800 D) x - y = 50; 80x + 120y = 4800

OpenStudy (atildathehun):

So if you look at the equations, if you are trying to to find how many hours he/she worked, why would you need to subtract hours in order to get to 50?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You dont.. my first guess was a. Was that correct? (:

OpenStudy (atildathehun):

Oh, I see your problem. I was under thinking it sorry one second.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I do not understand.

OpenStudy (atildathehun):

I would go with a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Explain?

OpenStudy (atildathehun):

B has a wrong constant in it. instead of 80 it is 50. C is subtracting the wages, which is not what we are wanting.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D?

OpenStudy (atildathehun):

At the end of the prompt it say it wants to find how many hours were worked on weekdays. D has x and y subtracting, if you knew how many hours were worked at night and on weekends you would have to add to 50.
