Work from the outside in.
First, get the area of the pink rectangle.
OpenStudy (freemap):
I just count the squares right
Directrix (directrix):
Yes. Check to see if you got this.

I am not sure I counted correctly.
OpenStudy (freemap):
I got 11 because I counted the squares but I see that what you did is only count the side of the triangele I was counting inside the triangele
Directrix (directrix):
Count the units of the rectangle, the entire rectangle.
OpenStudy (freemap):
okay, please hold

I counted 45 squares
Directrix (directrix):
That is correct. The area of the rectangle is base times height.
5* 9 = 45
From the rectangle, we have to subtract the area of the triangle.
Do you agree that the triangle on the left has width 2 and height 5.
If so, then the area of the triangle is 1/2 * 2 * 5 = 5.
OpenStudy (freemap):
yes
Directrix (directrix):
Check the length of the height and base of the triangle on the right.
OpenStudy (freemap):
20

Take half that to get the area of the right triangle.
