WILL MEDAL!! 2. Explain how a spiral galaxy might become an elliptical galaxy over time. What role does gravity play?

OpenStudy (gollywolly):

Hrmm well a spiral galaxy is flat and wide and an elliptical galaxy is just like the bulge at the center of the spiral galaxy. It is probably just the gravity, over time, pulling all of the outer particles inward forming a ballish mass. The particles wouldnt be leaving because they would have to gain energy in order to have an eccentricity equal to or greater than one.
