OpenStudy (priyar):

a uniform cylinder of length L and mass M having cross sectional area A is suspended with its length vertical from a fixed point by a massless spring, such that it is half submerged in a liquid of density "sigma" at eqbm. position. when the cylinder is given a downward push and released it starts oscillating vertically with a small amplitude . The time period T of oscillations of the cylinder will be ?

Hey, the restoring force is provided by the extra buoyant force. There is a nice general way to solve these problems.

OpenStudy (priyar):

yeah i figured out that and tried to write force eq.s .. but didn't get the correct answer..

Parth (parthkohli):

Alright, show me your work.

Parth (parthkohli):

The only thing that's bothering me is that they've not mentioned anything about the spring constant. Why is that?
