is it possible to change usernames?

A line passes through point (-2, 5) and has a slope of 2/3 . Points A(x, 3) and B(-2, y) lie on the line. what is the value of x and y?

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

no its not you gotta make a new id :)

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

alright 1st we find the equation of the line we use the point slope form here bc we know the slope and a point lying on the line alright if a point \((x_1,y_1)\) lies on a line with slope \(m\) then the equation of line is given like this- \((y-y_1)=m(x-x_1)\) now the slope is 2/3 and point is (-2,5) so our equation will be this- \(y-5=\frac{2}{3}(x+2)\) simplify it to get this- \(3y-15=2x+4\) \(2x-3y+19=0\) this is the equation of our line now they say that \((x,3)\) and \((-2,y)\) lie on the line finding x-> put y=3 in the equation of line u'd get x \(2x-3y+19=0\) \(2x-3(3)+19=0\) \(2x-9+19=0\) \(x=-5\) finding y-> put x=-2 in the equation u'd get y \(2x-3y+19=0\) \(2(-2)-3y+19=0\) \(-4-3y+19=0\) \(y=5\) :)

OpenStudy (ben00):

well then. Answer is y = 5

Thank you
