Keith is observing a slide of an amoeba under a compound microscope. He places a stained fine particle of yeast near the amoeba. He observes that the amoeba is engulfing this particle by extending its pseudopodia. Which process is the amoeba exhibiting? A) pinocytosis B)exocytosis C)phagocytosis D)receptor mediated endocytosis

OpenStudy (sheerfire):

Endocytosis=bulk transport of materials (solid or liquid) (solid-phagocytosis, liquid-pinocytosis) into a cell by the outward prohections of the cell's cell surface membrane in order to engulf the material. Once the material is engulfed, it is carried inside the cell in a phagocytotic vessicle. Lysome vessicles containing digestive enzyme fuse with the vessicle and the material is digested. The digested products are carried in a new vessicle which is carried to the cell surface membrane where it fuses with the cell surface membrane and is released outside the cell (exocytosis). All this movenent requires energy from ATP.
