how the sex of an offspring is determined

OpenStudy (anaise):

Do you know about X and Y?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, @Anaise is referring to the alleles. A woman has two 'X' alleles while a man has a 'Y' allele and an 'X' allele. So, an XX baby would be a girl and an XY baby would be a boy.

Kaylie, the individual left.

Obviously, it's for people who need help in the future. No need to meddle.

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

No one can possibly determine the sex if it is still developing. Educated guesses, maybe, but those are just guesses. It can be right or wrong. However, when you can physically hold and see the baby, you can probably tell if it is a boy or girl... Just by outward 'looks' ( genitals.), though that is another topic. Other times, like thy people said above me, XX baby girl! XY baby boy!
