Usually subordinating conjunctions mean there's more than one clause. A clause has a subject and a verb, so find the subjects and verbs in the sentence. Then find the word that links the clauses (the subordinating conjunction). Then look at the sentence and see which clause the conjunction goes to. Then you figure out what function the dependent clause (the one with the subordinating conjunction) has to the other clause (the independent clause. Hopefully this is helpful! :)
