What is the solution to the equation?

OpenStudy (philcua):

here it is

OpenStudy (philcua):

have to solve for x

OpenStudy (kamibug):

\[5(x+4) - 4x = 18 - 23\] First thing we gotta do here is distribute the 5. We can do that by multiplying it by each number in the parenthesis. For example 3(x+2) = 3x + 6 Give it a try with 5(x+4) ? :)

OpenStudy (philcua):

5x+20?

OpenStudy (philcua):

hello?

OpenStudy (philcua):

@KamiBug

OpenStudy (kamibug):

Sorry about that, I went afk. 5x + 20 is correct. :) Now we can combine the like terms 5x and -4x
