Please check my work! A sample of 80 high school seniors, 45% of which are female, were surveyed as to whether or not they are employed outside of school. 25% of the boys surveyed said they are not employed. How many boys are employed? 33 boys employed is the answer that I got. Is this correct?

@mathmale

OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):

No, that would be of all the student...we need to find how many boys total.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

If 45% of the students are girls, then (100-45)% are boys. What is (100-45)% ? Convert that to a decimal fraction.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here is what I did: 45% * 80 = 36 = # of girls. 80-36= 44 = # of boys. 25% * 44 = 11 = # of unemployed boys 44-11 = 33 = # of employed boys.

OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):

I believe you are correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay. Thanks.
