What do you need to know to finish this problem successfully? What have you already done? Have you every graphed the function y = |x| before? If so, what would the graph of y = | x + 2 | look like?

OpenStudy (bannana43):

no i have not graphed before

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Apparently you're expected to graph the given function by first completing the table of x and y values.

OpenStudy (bannana43):

how thro

OpenStudy (mathmale):

You are given the "absolute value function" y=|x+2|-1 and are asked to find its value for x=-4. Here's what to do: Substitute (-4) for " x " inside the absolute value symbols: y = | (-4)+2 | -1 y = | -2 | -1 = 2 - 1 = So you have the point (-4, 1). Find y in the same way for all the other given x values. Plot all of your points and then draw the graph. Note that IF y=-1, you have found the minimum value of this function. At which x-value does this occur? Present your work in the Draw utility (below).
