Math experts plzzz help!!Which operation should be performed first according to the order of operations? 117 + 45 – 34 • 8 + 36 ÷ 12 – 12 A. 34 • 8 B. 36 ÷ 12 C. 117 + 45 D. 45 – 34
"Order of Operations" rules are summed up in "PEMDAS." Do any work inside parentheses first, followed by any exponentiation, followed by multiplication or division, ending finally with addition or subtraction. Review this, please, and then apply these rules to the expression you've posted.
@mathmale I don't know where the parentheses are in this equation ;-;
there are none so go on
No exponent either....?
so go on
When there are no grouping symbols begin by doing all multiplications and divisions in order from left to right.
oops
backspaced.
34 x 8 = 272 Next..?
36 divided by 12 = 3
I don't get it
We need to read the problem more carefully Which operation should be performed FIRST according to the order of operations? 117 + 45 – 34 • 8 + 36 ÷ 12 – 12 The operation that should be performed first is 34 • 8 because it is the first multiplication on the left.
Yes, I agree with that. We have 117+45 occurring before the first multiplication, which is -34*8. Just write out 117 + 45 - (product of 8 and 34). Next, divide 12 into 36, writing the result as +3. Finally, subtract that 12. Then you'll need to combine, through addition and subtraction, what's left. NO more mult. or div.
And yes, you can carry out these + and - operations from left to right, although there's no law that says you must do so.
