The point of math is knowing how to do it.  
"just getting the answer" is like scoring a goal by your self compared to doing it in a real game.  completely different.

the reason "knowing (and doing) the work" is it is a form of thinking (which is hard to do unless  you practice).  You may not notice, but you are learning how to think (assuming you do the work)
