josiah had three less then twice as many nickels as dimes. If the total value of his coins was 1.45, how many of each kind of coin did he have?

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

let x represents the # of coins

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ojk

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

what do you think ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x + ?????? = 1.45

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

what does 3 less than twice mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x - 3

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

yes=)

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

what does that equal?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x - 3 = 1.45?

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

yes! now solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2.225

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

that is what I got.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (iwatermelon):

21?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks guys

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks guys

OpenStudy (owen3):

I don't agree with the solution give above. you need to solve a system of equations n = 2d - 3 .10d + .05n = 1.45

Refer to the solution using the Mathematica program for the calculations.
