OpenStudy (mizuki):

The difference in the _____ of P waves and S waves is used to locate an earthquake’s epicenter. intensity velocity arrival times speeds

OpenStudy (kyanthedoodle):

"First, scientists measure the difference in arrival times for P and S waves, they then convert the arrival time in minutes to distance from the epicenter in kilometers. then they get get the distance from the epicenter from two other seismic stations so together there is information from 3 seismic stations. then they draw three circles because the difference in arrival time converted to distance from the epicenter is the radius of the circle. The center of the circle is a particular seismographs location so the radius of each circle is the distance from that seismograph to the epicenter-the point where the three circles intersect is the epicenter!"
