y = kx is direct variation where k is the constant of variation so plug in y = 6 and x = 4 into this equation 6 = k*4 solve this for k

now, divide what by 4 ???
you need to isolate k . You do this by dividing both sides of the equation by 4. This will give you some value = k This value is ur answer
i'm still stumped and i don't know where (k) came from
k is the constant of variation that you are asked to find the valu of. We could have used any letter but k is the one usually used for these questions.
