OpenStudy (welshfella):

By the pythagoras theorem for right angled triangles 24^2 = 10^2 + x^2 x^2 = 24^2 - 10^2 can you continue?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No :(

OpenStudy (welshfella):

24^2 and 10^2 can be done on you calculator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

576 and 100??

OpenStudy (welshfella):

10^2 = 10*10 = 100 24 ^2 = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

576

OpenStudy (welshfella):

yea so that comes to 676 so x = sqaure root of 676

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh okay thanks ;*

OpenStudy (welshfella):

Now they want the answer in radical form so we need to factor 676 and include a factor which is a perfect square

OpenStudy (welshfella):

OH I made a mistake its not 676 Can you see my mistake?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No i cant

OpenStudy (welshfella):

its 24^2 - 10^2 = 576 - 100 = 476

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh okay so i got 2 square root of 119 right???

OpenStudy (welshfella):

x = sqrt476 and 476 = 4 * 119 x = sqrt 4 * sqrt 119 = 2 sqrt 119
