Question on systems of equations. (attached picture below)

OpenStudy (tw101):

OpenStudy (tw101):

@Directrix

OpenStudy (tw101):

@phi

OpenStudy (phi):

I think you have to plot the two lines, and find the "corner points" of the enclosed region. do you know how to do that ?

OpenStudy (tw101):

It's vaguely familiar but I have only just started to do these types of equations so I'm a little confused.

OpenStudy (phi):

Here is a plot

OpenStudy (tw101):

Oh and then do you substitute in the points into the equations?

OpenStudy (tw101):

or something like that

OpenStudy (phi):

in "linear programming" you plot the constraints , identify the corners (the points A, B, and C in the figure , also (0,0) but that is obviously not a max) use the (x,y) values of each point in the "cost equation" P= 2x+5y pick the point that gives the biggest value for P

OpenStudy (tw101):

Okay so I'd use the points like (3,0) (2,3) and (0,4)? And then plug them into P=2x+5y?

OpenStudy (phi):

yes (and technically (0,0) because that is a corner point)

OpenStudy (tw101):

Okay I'll do that now

OpenStudy (tw101):

The biggest one would be (0,4) because when put into the equation P=20. Right?

OpenStudy (phi):

yes. looks good.

OpenStudy (tw101):

Okay thank you! Could I ask for help on one more question? I just need help on how to graph it, but I get the process after.

OpenStudy (phi):

Please make it a new post.

OpenStudy (tw101):

Okay.
