conservatives wanted to be in control of everything. They didnt think farmers needed their own college. They were corrupt and did not care about the common man. Tillman believed in and created a college to teach farmers agriculture. (Clemson) I think Tillman was goodhearted even though he believed in white supremacy. He made comments like "The whites have absolute control of the state government, and we intend at any and all hazard to retain it." He also advocated for segregation and disfranchisement. In contrast he worked hard to end lynching and though he didn't want blacks to have the same.
