I don't agree. The first regular octagon has only 7 "exposed" sides and does the last one. The six between them have 6 "exposed" sides.
yes, sorta that is correct for the perimeter added together of all 6 BUT notice, where they're linked, only 1 side counts, not the two sides of each because they're linked into one so you have to subtract from that, that one extra side
they're linked at 5 borders where they touch each other so you'd need to subtract 1 side per each border ot 5 * 4.5 so (4.5*8) * (6) - ( 4.5 * 5)

(4.5*8) * (6) - (4.5 * 10) 10, because, the octagons are touching at 5 points, and on each point, those two sides of each, doesn't count as perimeter
