I don't agree.

The first regular octagon has only 7 "exposed" sides and does the last one.

The six between them have 6 "exposed" sides.

that is correct for the perimeter added together of all 6
BUT
notice, where they're linked, only 1 side counts, not the two sides of each because they're linked into one
so you have to subtract from that, that one extra side
