question (logical reasoning) What is the house no of Earl ?

OpenStudy (mathmath333):

OpenStudy (mathmath333):

|dw:1457452711095:dw|

OpenStudy (mathmath333):

@AbdullahM

OpenStudy (mathmath333):

answer given is 59

rishavraj (rishavraj):

sucks my badd.... :) sorry

rishavraj (rishavraj):

I merged Buddy and Dennis

OpenStudy (mathmath333):

carmen and earl are merged

OpenStudy (mathmath333):

I m afraid how can i solve this type of questions in 3 min lol

rishavraj (rishavraj):

and wht makes u say tht ?? :/

OpenStudy (mathmath333):

time given in tests is less :) , not a whole day

rishavraj (rishavraj):

tht was wrong sorry

OpenStudy (mathmath333):

but if earls house no is 59 then the statement appllies that all people whose house no is > 50 are liars

rishavraj (rishavraj):

bt yeah ....... howz tht possible ..Earl's house no is 59 then tht of Buddy's would be 29.5 :/

OpenStudy (mathmath333):

beacuse earl is lying

OpenStudy (mathmath333):

if Earl =59 then Dennis=49

OpenStudy (mathmath333):

if D=49 then B=27 or 64 , hence B=64

OpenStudy (mathmath333):

i think C=59 fits the answer

OpenStudy (mathmath333):

C and E=59

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

Interesting question. Ok, Buddy says that his house number is greater than 70. Earl says his house number is two times that of Buddy's. 70 * 2 = 140 That clearly means that Earl is lying. And thus means that his house address is greater than 50 for sure. That eliminates A and B for now.

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

That eliminates 1 and 2 for now.**

OpenStudy (mathmath333):

If E=59 then from the statement of Abe= E=10+D, hence D=49, as now D=49<50 thus Dennis is not lying hence by dennis's statement is true and 49 is a square Buddy's house n=o must be cube hence the options would ne 1^3,2^3,3^3,4^6,5^3 but as the range is from 10 to 111 only 27 and 64 are possible of which buddy is lying hence his house no should be greater than 50 hence 64 , and A=16 which is a factor of 64

hartnn (hartnn):

B says his house number is >70. If he was saying truth, it automatically makes him liar. C is a cube and a square, so C =64 --> C is lying. which makes D<50 D is speaking truth so B is a cube less than 70 but >50,so B=64

OpenStudy (mathmath333):

:)

hartnn (hartnn):

factors of 16 >10 are 16,32 but as B is lying, A<30, so A =16

OpenStudy (mathmath333):

a=16,b=64,c,e=59,d=49

hartnn (hartnn):

agreed :)

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

Good job :)
