mid-segments of a triangle... HELP!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If M, N, and O are midpoints of triangle JKL, find LJ. A. 4 B. 8 C. 12 D. 16

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

O is a midpoint of LK. That makes LO = OK And the length of LO is 2x And the length of OK is x + 8 LO = OK 2x = x + 8 Can you first solve for x? 2x = x + 8 Solve for x by subtracting x on both sides. :)

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

Once you find the value of x, I'll help you get to the final answer. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so x=8

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

Correct! Now N is the midpoint of JL That means JN = NL and we know that x - 2 = JN And we know that x = 8 so JN = 8 - 2 = 6 Now, we also know that JN + NL = JL and we know that JN = NL That means: JN + JN = JL 2 JN = JL and we figured out JN = 6 So 2(6) = JL JL = ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

JL= 12! thank you so much!

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

I hope you weer able to follow along with what I just told you. :)

It was my pleasure! :D
