OpenStudy (flygirlmandi):

if the diameter of a tire is 2.5 ft, then how many times will the tire have to rotate to travel one mile (1 mile=2580 ft)

OpenStudy (mathmusician):

Circumference of tire is pi x D = 3.14159 x 2.5 which is about 7.85 So each rotation covers 7.85 feet. The number of rotations to go one mile is then 1 mile/7.85 ft which is 5280 ft/7.85 ft = 672.61 which I'd round up to 673.

OpenStudy (welshfella):

calculate the circumference of the wheel then divide this into 5280 feet

OpenStudy (flygirlmandi):

that helped alot! both of you!
