WILL FAN AND MEDAL! What is the solution to the system of equations? x+y=5 x-2y=2 (_,_)

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Subtract both equations to get rid of x and solve for y. :)

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

Somethings wrong. They're seems to not be a solution. I tried it the short and long ways, unless you see it SmartOne

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, do I subtract 2 from 5? I'm sorry I've always struggled with this.

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

That's what I did. Subtract X from X, -2y from y and 2 from 5

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

x - x + y - 2y = 5 - 2 Add the like terms.
