How does energy travel through the food web?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Starting with the sun going to the top of the food chain.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The Sun produces energy in the form of light that plants (including algae) then convert to sugar via photosynthesis, some animals then eat plants and the chain moves up from there.

hope that helps

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

Energy can be transferred from the sun to plants, which helps them make photosynthesis. Water to plants also, and to other animals. Water is a necessity resource. And another is each animal (prey) contribution. Like a bird eating a beetle. That beetle is being a food energy source for the bird, nourishing it.

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

Another thing, carbon Dioxide is transformed into oxygen; for animals to breathe. Oxygen helps us in our circular system so. Plants give off oxygen. and. De composers decomposing dead items to make healthy soil, and not to let dead carcasses fill up our grounds. Giving us diseases along with many other things.
