Help with piecewise functions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is my question, i have to fill in those blanks

OpenStudy (caozeyuan):

y=4 is the constant function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't really know about these types of functions that well :/ could you explain it to me?

OpenStudy (caozeyuan):

well y is contant during the -1 to 1 interval

OpenStudy (caozeyuan):

the other funciton is linear

OpenStudy (caozeyuan):

so you have y=kx+b, you know k=1 since the line is a diagonal of a square which means dy/dx=1, d stands for delta

OpenStudy (caozeyuan):

now you have a point on the line so you plug and get the y intercept b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so how would i plug that in the equation? sorry if im asking a lot of questions, I'm just not really good with math :/
