I know that the answer is 8, but I was wondering if anyone could explain how to do this?

You do the stuff in the parenthesis first. Then the exponent. Then the division.

Just to add a bit: When doing PEDMAS:

P: Do everything in parenthesis first. (Follow order inside them too!!)
E: Simplify exponents
DM: Do divison and multiplaction, left to right.
AS: Do addition and subtraction, left to right.
