Can someone help me with some of my geometry work please? I am new to the site!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure whats the problems

OpenStudy (dippyj0599):

Find the area of the following shape. You must show all work to receive credit.

OpenStudy (dippyj0599):

Figure ABCDEF is shown. A is located at 5, 6. B is located at 11, 3. C is located at 11, negative 3. D is located at 4, negative 3. E is located at 5, 3. F is located at 1, 3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

WOW um sorry dont have a clue what grade are you in! i am in 7th lol

OpenStudy (dippyj0599):

I am in 11th

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow sorry dont have a clue sorry buddy oh yeah welcome to the site :)

OpenStudy (dippyj0599):

It's straight thanks anyway homie

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

hmmm you can post a picture here, just take a screenshot of the material then click the [Attach File] to include the picture, so we can see it

OpenStudy (dippyj0599):

ok one sec

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

do you know how to take as screenshot?

OpenStudy (dippyj0599):

yeah one sec

OpenStudy (dippyj0599):

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

ok... do you know how to get the area of a triangle?

OpenStudy (dippyj0599):

no

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

ok do you know how to take the area of a rectangle?

OpenStudy (dippyj0599):

oh wait dont you find the area of a triangle by using the 1/2 base times height

OpenStudy (dippyj0599):

and rectangle is base times height

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yes, that is correct, for a triangle is 1/2 base * height and for a rectangle is width * height gimme a sec

OpenStudy (dippyj0599):

ok cool

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

so... notice this picture your figure, is really just two triangles and one rectangle find the area of those two triangles, and the rectangle and SUM THEM UP, and that's the area of the figure :)

OpenStudy (dippyj0599):

ok one sec I am goin got work them out

OpenStudy (dippyj0599):

going to*

OpenStudy (dippyj0599):

the area of the smallest triangle is 3, the area of the square is 36, and the area of the large triangle is 15

OpenStudy (dippyj0599):

right?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yeap thus the area of the figure is 15 + 3 + 36 = 54

OpenStudy (dippyj0599):

wow thanks a lot

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yw

OpenStudy (dippyj0599):

I have heard that people can give medals on here. How can I do that?

OpenStudy (dippyj0599):

nvm I figured it out lol

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

doesn't matter, at least not to me :)

OpenStudy (dippyj0599):

ok cool thank you
