@iYuko, you do know that you can always tag me in History. No need for that Qualified Helper question. :P
Basically, your question wants both causes and effects of of the collapse of the Soviet Union. Do you know any causes and/or effects? A perfect example of a collapse of communism would be the Berlin Wall.
I don't know any
Try and go to the Library perhaps and grab some books on the Berlin Wall and etc.
Economic difficulties...fall in oil price The USSR was overly focused on their military

(1) the Soviets couldn't afford to keep up with the arms race that was the keystone of the cold war

3.Gorbachev was against brezhnev doctrine, so it meant that socialistic countries can deal with themselves on their own accord. 4.1989 USSR liberalized elections.
1.Planned economy proved innefective and couldn't compete with market economy of the west. 2.Gorbachev came to power and innitalized "perestroika", he liberalized elections.
When Gorbachev came to power, the soviet regime became a bit better, which means, that people could protest and they wouldn't get killed.
1. The U.S.-started arms race. In a socialized economy, military spending is a debilitating drain, while in a capitalist economy it is a stimulus. 2. Abandoning Soviet founding fathers Lenin and Trotsky's conception of communism as the ultimate in democracy. Starting with Stalin, the workers councils ("soviets") became just meetings of party hack handraisers. Without the feedback from workers democracy, the politics and economics of the USSR entered a slow but sure downward spiral. Even so, there was a certain strength to the USSR - it took 70 years of staggering around with murderous bureaucrats on its back, strangling it, for the workers state to die. Even so, today communist and ex-communist political parties are still the most popular political organizations in the former Soviet republics. 3. (In Eastern Europe) The destruction by the Soviet bureaucracy of local communist organizations that had massive popular support, in favor of local stooges of the Soviets. Another byproduct of Stalinism and the betrayal by Stalinist bureaucrats of the Marxist conception.
This could help as well............1. Undemocratic Government 2. Unfair jobs ( example: a doctor got paid $20 an hour, so did a garbage person, and so did a fireman, so it dosent matter if they worked harder or not, they all still got the same money) 3. - Since the Russian empire and later the soviet union were built on force and military expansion, there was no concept of nation among the many different ethnic groups that compose it. As soon as they realized that they had a chance to escape, they did .
Orrr......(1) the Soviets couldn't afford to keep up with the arms race that was the keystone of the cold war (2) the societies of the soviet union were far too fragmented. The eastern part - ie Asians - were considered second class citizens. (3) communism was a failure in that it completely sucked the incentive out of otherwise industrious people. The government couldn't manage to keep the people content with things as basic as housing and food.
in 1990/03/11 Lithuania was the first country to declare independence from USSR, not to mention the disidents and such, that always spread the news about USSR not protecting human rights, which they accepted back in Helsinki 1975
