so if I have the ordered pairs (-2,1) (-1,0) (0,-1) (1,0) (2,1) can someone walk me through the steps of solving to find a a function rule to represent the relationship if it was shown in a table?

List, in ascending order, all of the x-coordinate values.
Then list, in a separate column, the y-coordinates that go with these x-coordinates.



If there is just one, only one, y-value for each individual x-value, then your set of points represents a function; if, for a given x-value, you find 2 or more y-values that go with that x, then your set of points does not represent a function.

List of x values List of corresponding y-values
in ascending order (do not attempt to put them into ascending order)

i think your best bet would be to plot the points
this is not that easy to see as a function without doing that
