The quotient of the sum of a number and three and five times the number is three. Translate.
Any ideas? :-)
i know that quotient is division and, and is subtraction. but all i got is x-3-5x=3 i doubt that correct, can you help?
There is no subtraction involved.
"Sum of" means. Addition.
x+3-5x=3? Does "and" not mean subtraction?
The quotient of the sum of a number and three and five times the number is three. "The quotient" ----> divide the sum ----> add times ----> multiply is ----> equals
"and" does not mean subtract
okay, thats good to know. x+3+5x=3
Difference means subtract.
so would this be the correct equation then?
Nope.
that's good to know thank you i always thought and meant subtract
okay, um i know theres division in there but im not sure where
The quotient of [the sum of a number and three ] and [ five times the number ] = 3
x+3/5x=3
close....
You need ( x + 3 )
(x+3)/5x=3 is that what youre saying?
You got it!!!
Is it important to put the parenthesis in?
Yes, it makes a HUGE difference in meaning
okay thank you so much!
Thanks for trying to learn :-)
