OpenStudy (phi):

they want you to figure out 60% of 1 ¼ can you do that ?

OpenStudy (alivejeremy):

How i do that ?

OpenStudy (phi):

do you know how to figure out 60% of 1 ?

OpenStudy (alivejeremy):

Well 60% of 1 is 0.6 but idk how to get that

OpenStudy (phi):

yes. What you did is change 60% to 60/100 (or 0.6 ) both mean the same thing then you multiplied 60/100 * 1 = 60/100 = 0.6 or 0.6*1 = 0.6

OpenStudy (alivejeremy):

Now what ?

OpenStudy (phi):

you use the same idea with 1 ¼ you multiply 0.6 * 1 ¼ I would change the ¼ to 0.25 so 1 ¼ = 1.25 or I would change 1 ¼ to an improper fraction 5/4 then multiply 0.6 * 5/4 or 0.6 * 1.25

OpenStudy (phi):

if you do 0.6 * 5/4 I would change the 0.6 to 6/10 = 3/5 and do 3/5 * 5/4

OpenStudy (alivejeremy):

Is there a easier way ?

OpenStudy (phi):

If you practice it gets easy. Like learning to read (do you remember how hard it was)

OpenStudy (alivejeremy):

And than u get 0.75

OpenStudy (phi):

yes, 0.75 is correct, but your answers are in fractions so you have to change 0.75 to a fraction can you do that ?

OpenStudy (alivejeremy):

Nope :P

OpenStudy (phi):

0.75 means 75/100 now simplify (I would divide top and bottom by 25, or by 5, and then 5 again)

OpenStudy (phi):

If you did the problem using fractions, by doing 60/100 * 5/4 ans simplify 60/100 to 6/10 and then 3/5 you would have \[ \frac{3}{5} \cdot \frac{5}{4} \] and you can "cancel the 5's"
