OpenStudy (phagey):

Which of the following reactions does NOT take place in the mitochondria? glycolysis Citric Acid Cycle (Kreb’s Cycle) Electron Transport Chain ATP synthase synthesizes ATP from ADP and a phosphate group ATP can be broken down into ADP and a phosphate group. These products can then be reassembled to form more ATP. Which statement correctly describes the energy differences between ATP and ADP?

OpenStudy (phagey):

less energy is used to form ATP than is released from ATP hydrolysis more energy is used to form ATP than is released from ATP hydrolysis ATP stores less chemical energy than ADP and phosphate ATP stores more chemical energy than ADP and phosphate ^they are the answer options for question 2

OpenStudy (fatir5):

Ans 1. All the reactions except glycolysis takes place in mitochondria. Glycolysis takes place in cytosol where glucose is broken down in two pyruvate molecules and now these pyruvate molecules are transported to mitochondria for further reactions. Ans 2. ATP has three energetic phosphate bonds as compared to ADP which has two, so now it makes sense, which option should it be :)
