Please Help! Will fan and medal!
The green portion of the shape has an
area of 50π square feet. What are the
measures of the diagonals of the
yellow Rhombus?

Are there any choices?
OpenStudy (darkbeautystar):
No
OpenStudy (welshfella):
well we can find the area of the rhombus
this = area of circle - 50 pi = (10pi)^2 * pi - 50pi
OpenStudy (darkbeautystar):
That = 2943.54803535

it looks like the rhombus touches the circle so one diagonal would be = 20pi feet.
OpenStudy (darkbeautystar):
Ok I'm not sure where to add that in to the equation
OpenStudy (welshfella):
I cant get my head around this one , but it shouldn't be too difficult. I've got a mental block somehow..

The triangle should be 20ft high
OpenStudy (welshfella):
Ah yes
you can find the area of the triangle in terms of x and equate it to 1/2 the area of the rhombus
so x * 10 pi = [ (10pi)^2 * pi - 50pi ] / 2
solve this for x
The other diagonal = 2*x.
OpenStudy (darkbeautystar):
Ok so X=1471.77401768
OpenStudy (welshfella):
No - that is half the area of the rhombus
OpenStudy (darkbeautystar):
And then the other diagonal would be 2943.54803535

OpenStudy (welshfella):
No you need to solve for x
OpenStudy (darkbeautystar):
Well the first big number I put was what I solved for X
OpenStudy (darkbeautystar):
I just did exactly what you put
OpenStudy (darkbeautystar):
except for the *2
OpenStudy (darkbeautystar):
1471.77401768 is what I found for X using the equation you gave me!

OpenStudy (welshfella):
the 2943 was the area right
You miscalculated there
OpenStudy (darkbeautystar):
Where does the 2943 fit into the equation?
OpenStudy (welshfella):
its 2943.55 - I apologise You were right
x * 10 pi = 2943.55 / 2
x = 2943.55 / 10* pi
OpenStudy (darkbeautystar):
924.743505547
OpenStudy (darkbeautystar):
X=^

OpenStudy (welshfella):
Sorry I got called away again
I made a mistake
its 2943.55 / 2 * 10 * pi
OpenStudy (welshfella):
which i get to be 46.85
OpenStudy (darkbeautystar):
Ok so is that the final answer...
OpenStudy (darkbeautystar):
I thought we had more steps
OpenStudy (welshfella):
that is the value of x
diagonal = 2x = 93.7

OpenStudy (darkbeautystar):
So the answer would be 93.7 cause i'm pretty sure it is asking for the measures of the diagonals of the rhombus.
OpenStudy (welshfella):
well one diagonal = diameter of the circle ( the longest one)
check the diagram
OpenStudy (welshfella):
20 pi or 62.83 feet right?
OpenStudy (darkbeautystar):
No 20ft is what the diagram says
OpenStudy (darkbeautystar):
That line that goes across the circle and through the middle of the rhombus says 20ft

OH i need glasses
then our calculations are wrong
OpenStudy (darkbeautystar):
lol
OpenStudy (welshfella):
OK
area of rhombus = 10^2 * pi - 50 pi = 50 pi
right?
