OpenStudy (nikki_skellington):

A scale drawing of a kitchen is shown below. The scale is 1 : 20.

OpenStudy (nikki_skellington):

OpenStudy (nikki_skellington):

Show your work to determine the area of the room in square feet.

OpenStudy (nikki_skellington):

someone plz help :(

OpenStudy (mrnood):

if the scale is 1:20 then it meansd that each measurement would be 20 times bigger in real life than in the drawing so - what are th edimansions of the real room in inches? (multiply th drawing by 20)

OpenStudy (nikki_skellington):

do you mean multiply 5 by 20 and 4 by 20

OpenStudy (mrnood):

yes

OpenStudy (nikki_skellington):

so 100 and 80

OpenStudy (mrnood):

well - you need to include the units 100 inches by 80 inches so what is tharea of the room in square inches (multiply the lenght by the width)

OpenStudy (nikki_skellington):

8,000...?

OpenStudy (nikki_skellington):

square feet

OpenStudy (mrnood):

Yes - but please include th eunits 8000 sq ins but oyu need to convert to sq feet how many sq ins in 1 sq ft?

OpenStudy (nikki_skellington):

144

OpenStudy (nikki_skellington):

i think, sorry i am really bad at this

OpenStudy (mrnood):

OK good so use that to convert 8000 sq ins to sq feet (you need to divide....)

OpenStudy (nikki_skellington):

so divide 12 by 8000..right

OpenStudy (mrnood):

no area = 8000 sq ins i sq ft = 144 sq ins so how many sq ft are the same as 8000 sq ins

OpenStudy (nikki_skellington):

55?

OpenStudy (mrnood):

why have you rounded it ?

OpenStudy (nikki_skellington):

o w8 its 144

OpenStudy (nikki_skellington):

not 55

OpenStudy (mrnood):

No 8000/144 = 55.5555 You rounded to 55 but if you are choosing to round to nearest sq ft it is 56 or maybe choose 55.5 or 55.55

OpenStudy (nikki_skellington):

ok got it

OpenStudy (nikki_skellington):

thx for the help :)

OpenStudy (mrnood):

the question doesn't tell you the accuracy required but 55 is not good - because 56 is th e nearest whole number or you could choose to put recurring decimal 55.555........
