OpenStudy (savannaadams16):

In the figure below, the segment is parallel to one side of the triangle. Find the value of x 1.5 15 18 24

OpenStudy (savannaadams16):

OpenStudy (savannaadams16):

@jdoe0001 could you help me on this one as well?

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Have you setup your proportion?

OpenStudy (savannaadams16):

Would it be x+6/16 = x/12?

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Close ^^ But we would flip the way you had set it up.... \(\Huge{\frac{16}{x+6}=\frac{12}{x}}\)

563blackghost (563blackghost):

We would now cross multiply.... \(\Huge{16(x)=12(x+6)}\)

OpenStudy (savannaadams16):

16x = 12x + 72?

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Correct ^^ Now try to get x to one side of the equation....

OpenStudy (savannaadams16):

4x = 72 Then 4x/4 = 72/4?

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Yup ^^

OpenStudy (savannaadams16):

x =18. Thank you so much!

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Np ^^ You did a great job! :D
