OpenStudy (ayonnaleflore):

help me please

OpenStudy (ayonnaleflore):

OpenStudy (aihberkhan):

Okay. What do you think it is? @ayonnaleflore

OpenStudy (ayonnaleflore):

c

OpenStudy (aihberkhan):

Okay. You are wrong... but I can show you how to get it. First, lets find median. How do you find median? >> "To find the median, the data should be arranged in order from least to greatest. If there is an even number of items in the data set, then the median is found by taking the mean (average) of the two middlemost numbers."

OpenStudy (aihberkhan):

So can you try to find the median out of the data set?

OpenStudy (ayonnaleflore):

6 7 1 13 1 15 15 19 21 so the median is 13.5

OpenStudy (aihberkhan):

No. The data set from least to greatest is: 6 7 11 13 14 15 15 19 21

OpenStudy (aihberkhan):

So if we keep crossing out one from each side the middle number is \(14\). So the median is \(14\). Do you understand so far? :) @ayonnaleflore

OpenStudy (ayonnaleflore):

yes

OpenStudy (ayonnaleflore):

i know that the mode is 15

OpenStudy (aihberkhan):

Okay. So the middle line in the box should be on top of the median. So now what do you think the answer is?

OpenStudy (ayonnaleflore):

either A or C

OpenStudy (aihberkhan):

No it cannot be C. This is because the middle line is over \(15\) and it MUST be over \(14\) since that is the median. So we can eliminate B and C.

OpenStudy (ayonnaleflore):

i meant A or D

OpenStudy (aihberkhan):

Yes. Good job. So now lets move onto the next step. Now what is 25% of the data.

OpenStudy (ayonnaleflore):

what do you mean?

OpenStudy (ayonnaleflore):

30.25

OpenStudy (aihberkhan):

Here I want to make you understand on your own. I find it much better that way. Go to this web: http://www.purplemath.com/modules/boxwhisk.htm Find out how to find quartiles and tell me if you understand. I want to make sure you get it from another place before I explain .:)

OpenStudy (ayonnaleflore):

i still dont get it im sorry

OpenStudy (ayonnaleflore):

@AihberKhan

OpenStudy (ayonnaleflore):

so when i calculated what you told me to i got 30.25 but thats not on any of the answer choices

OpenStudy (aihberkhan):

Okay. So take the median of the 1st half of the values. What is that?

OpenStudy (ayonnaleflore):

so the median of 6 7 11 13 is 9

OpenStudy (ayonnaleflore):

@AihberKhan

OpenStudy (aihberkhan):

Well and 13.5 because its half. I don’t want to mislead you and want to make sure i am correct. So @Directrix am I doing this right?
